2018 Winter Series

Winter Series are 6 races held on the fantastic trails at the Armidale State Forest, better known as “The Piney”.  Races will be held on Sunday starting at 11:30 am.

The first race is on Sunday 22 April.  Then winter series races are on 20 May, 17 June, 15 July, 26 August and 23 September.  Please note that these dates are subject to change.

The start/registration is through the 2nd gate on the right as you go down Pine Forest Rd.  Drive out Rockvale Rd until you get to Pine Forest Rd.  Turn right into the gate at 1.5km.  The start/registration line is under the powerlines (The Strip) at the bottom of the hill - two wheel drive accessible. See below for the map.

The main race grade (men and women) is 3 laps of the full 11km course - Black Track (marked with Black arrows).  Under 19 is also 3 laps.  Under 17 is 2 laps and Under 15 is 1 lap.  Juniors can race up a category subject to commissaire approval. The main track is very interesting with a variety of trail types.  Rock gardens, wooden structures, skinnys, rocky rollovers, tight single track, switchbacks, uphill, downhill and fast flowy sections.  This year we also have a shortened track, which avoids the more technical sections. This is called the Green Track and is about 5 km (marked with Green arrows).  We will use this easier track for the kids race too.

Registration starts at 10.45am and needs to be completed by 11.15pm.  Riders need a MTBA licence to compete, otherwise a day licence can be bought on the day for $30.  Members need to pay a race fee of $5 per race, or they can pay $20 for all races on the series (6 races).  Juniors (U19) need to be a member ($2 fee each race or $8 for the series) or pay for a $18 day licence.

Riders of all abilities are invited to race, especially those new to the sport.

We will try and hold BBQ following each race but this may not be always possible. This will be posted on FaceBook during the week prior.
Sausage Sandwich $3
Cool drink $2

The trails to be used are shown below in Black Loop and the Green joining track.
