A fundraiser organised by Harrison Munday on Friday
night at Affamato Cafe, was a huge success due to the generous support
from the sponsors and the community. The evening started with the usual
great cuisine from the staff at Affamatos. The atmosphere was relaxed
and friendly as people socialized and dined on the scrumptious finger
food.
The evening was all about raising money for airfares
to allow Holly to travel to a UCI sponsored women's and juniors elite
training camp being held in Switzerland which includes a trial world cup
series race in France. This camp will allow Holly to hone her skills
in the presence of other international elite athletes in Cross Country
Mountain Biking. In addition, Holly has been recently elected in the
Australian team to compete in the World Cup Championships to be held in
Norway in early September.
A raffle and auction were held after dinner to
support Holly's trip. Items that were auctioned included a SportUNE Gym
membership, two 1 hour massages with Kristy Blanch, five $100 Meating
Place Vouchers, a Community Mutual full race cut riding kit, hair
products from VIP Hair Salon, a helmet and jersey from BCM, one nights
accommodation at Petersons Winery including breakfast and a bottle of
wine, a national champion green and gold jersey signed by Holly, one of
Holly's national series leaders jerseys, an air hockey table donated by
Mountain Motors, a Sportspower voucher and three training sessions with
Holly.
Bidding was furious, as people scrambled to pick up
the awesome selection of goods and services on offer. The highlight was
the bidding war between Speedy and Chris, who were determined to make
the home of the national jersey in Walcha.
A good night was had by all. A big thank you to all
the wonderful sponsors and to everyone who came along to give their
support. It will be great to cheer on Holly in the next couple of
weeks. |
