2014 Winter Series
The 2014 Winter series is a series of 7 races held on the fantastic trails at the SPortUNE, Armidale State Forest, better known as “The Piney”, Walcha and Fat Tyre Farm. Races will be held on Sunday afternoons starting at 2 pm. Registration starts at approx 1.15pm. Riders of all abilities are invited to race, especially those new to the sport.
The 2014 winter series races dates and venues:
Race 1: Sunday, 13th April
Race 2: Sunday, 11th May
Race 3: Sunday, 22nd June,
Race 4: Sunday 20th July - Walcha Track combined with NIXC race
Race 5: Sunday 17th August - Sport UNE Track
(Armidale GNaTPACK / NIXC Race - 31 August - Piney)
Race 6: Sunday, 21st September - Sport UNE including the Flow Track
Race 7: Sunday, 12th October - Fat Tyre Farm
(UNE 3 Hour Sunday, 16th November - SportUNE Track)
SportUNE Winter Series Race Details:
Unless notified otherwise these races are an XC race format. (That is rider's complete a specified number of laps depending on their age and grade).
For example: at the Sport UNE track (New Trail Head)
Open Men - 5 Laps open men
Open Women - 4 Laps
U19 - 4 Laps
U17 - 3 Laps
U15 - 2 Laps
U13 - Shorter Green track - Must be registered, plate on and ready to go at 1:40pm. For your child's benefit don't be late - we will have to start on time.
U17 and U15 may be pulled after a number of laps to control their total race time to stay within the MTBA Technical Regulations.
Note that U19, U17 and U15 can race up one grade if agreed by the commissaire. U12 Juniors will need to be considered on experience and approved by the commissaire, Peter Hosking.
Registration
Rego from 1.15 to 1:45 pm, dirtmasters (U13) event will start at 1:40 pm and main race at 2:00 pm.

Licence
Riders need a MTBA licence to compete, otherwise a day licence can be bought on the day for $20. Members need to pay a race fee of $5, or they can pay $25 for all races on the series (7 races). Juniors (U19) need to be a member ($2 fee each race or $10 for the series) or pay for a $20 day licence.
Other Races and Rides
Scattered around these dates is a multitude of races at nearby clubs for those riders who would like to try different tracks. Many of these are part of the GNaTPACK (Mid North Coast) series where one round is held at Grafton, Nambucca, Taree, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour, Kempsey and Armidale.
The Armidale GNaTPACK race is on 31st August and will see huge numbers of visitors and locals racing on the Pine Forest track. For full details on GNatPACK series click here.
