Following the August Snow Day and subsequent impacts on all of our trail networks (see below), NEMTB has made the call to cancel the final Winter Series race.
Instead, we're starting to plan for a repeat of the Funduro Gravity series held last year, so keep an eye out for the dates and venue which will be confirmed in the next fortnight.
In the interim, the club will be focused on getting our trail networks reopened over the coming weeks. We will be scheduling a series of working bees for members and riders to assist, so that we can get back out onto some single track again soon.
While the recent Snow Day in early August was pretty spectacular, it has had a huge impact on our trail networks across the Armidale area. Current status of our trails is as follows:
Like much of the UNE campus, the Sport UNE trails have suffered with multiple trees down and hung branches across the trail network. This has resulted in the trail network being closed to all riders. Additionally, no trail maintenance can be undertaken by the club, at the request of UNE's Chief Operating Officer. This is solely due to multiple safety concerns.
UNE currently have a team of arborists working across the entire campus to remove hung branches and downed trees. They have scheduled this work to include the Sport UNE trails but we have no current time frame for when this will occur.
Please respect the campus and trail closure notices and stay off the Sport UNE Trails while this work is underway.
Fat Tyre Farm and Robbers Run have been severely impacted by the Snow Day, with numerous branches and trees down across the trail network. In addition, the bottom section of Soft Serve has flooded and is unrideable.
We're currently investigating the work needed and starting to plan for a working bee to get these trails reopened. Will be posting notice of a working bee once we have more information but please reach out if you are able to assist.
Following the Snow Day, The Piney is quite wet and boggy, with numerous trees down. The current windy weather is expected to further impact these trails.
The wet conditions will also delay any cleanup works planned by FCNSW in the recently logged section, now not expected to be completed before Autumn 2026.
The club is still assessing conditions and will update the status on these trails soon.
Round 4 of the NIXCS is coming up on Sunday 21st September, hosted by North West Mountain Bikers.

The area harvested remains open to the public. Note that none of the original MTB tracks (Snakes 'n Ladders, Angry Eyes, Wibble Wobble, Santorini, etc.) in this area not expected to be intact following this clearing operation.
FCNSW plan to undertake cleanup and rehabilitation works once conditions are dry enough to allow heavy equipment onsite. However, ongoing wet weather and the August 2025 Snow Day have delayed this work, now expected to be completed by Autumn 2026.
Trails on the eastern side of Donald Creek remain open and are a great option for a ride.
Trails on the eastern side Donald Creek are easily accessible from the Pine Forest Road carpark.
