Safeguarding Children and
Young People Policy
NEMTB Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy
NEMTB follows AusCycling Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy dated 2 Feb 2024.
If concerned about any behaviour please review the above policy and follow communication channels recommended depending on the event. Further resources can be found at https://auscycling.org.au/about/integrity/child-safeguarding.
Key controls that NEMTB Committee has endorsed to ensure safeguard children and young people are;
There must always be two adults present when events involve children/young people. Never complete something individually unless in a medical emergency. i.e. two adults must be present until all children are picked up by their guardians,
Club endorsed coaching with child/young persons will require reviewing the above policy and generating controls which will be presented to the Committee for review and formal endorsement (minuted at a General Meeting),
Communications with children/young person:
All communication (calls, SMS or other messaging services) must be made to guardian unless at an organised club event.
Direct communication can only occur when used in a group club communications and not individually. Committee formal approval is required for other means of single child/young person communication.
In the event of First Aid response at a Club event, if a single person needs to respond a second adult must attend as soon as possible. In an emergency situation a response must not wait for a second adult. The club will plan always to have two adults available to respond in these cases.
During working bees, the child/young person’s guardian must be present.
Photographs or video are not to be taken of children/young people without guardians formal permission (completed during electronic registration by guardian).
The following club positions are required to have a NSW Working With Children Checks (WWCC) registered with NEMTB:
Committee members,
Coaches used for club training,
Commissaires, and
Qualified event First Aid providers at club events and photographers.
All activities with children/young people must be formally approved by the Committee.
Note the above overarching principles can be modified if reviewed and formally approved by the Committee.
