While the recent Snow Day in early August was pretty spectacular, it has had a huge impact on our trail networks across the Armidale area. Current status of our trails is as follows:
Following works by the arborist, UNE have confirmed the front section of the Sport UNE trails are open. This includes Ivy League, Revelation, Full Cognition, Granny Flats, Poplars and Flat Out, providing 5km loop.
The pine forest section of Sport UNE is off limits to all everyone. Assessment by the arborist found the site too dangerous for any remediation works and UNE have formally closed that section of the campus and tracks. All riders are required to not cross the barrier tape and stay off all tracks within the pine forest area including Axe Head, Rams Horn, Short Back, Wimbledon, VC's Corner and The Moguls
The Gonozo trails, including Gonzo, Rolla Retta and Iwata, currently remain closed. These trails are still to be assessed and have remediation completed by the arborist which should happen in the next couple of weeks.
NEMTB cannot stress enough that all riders SHOULD NOT
Enter any section of trail within the pine forest at Sport UNE
Attempt to ride the Gonzo trails at Sport UNE until further notice
Cross any warning/barrier tape, whether up or down, at Sport UNE.
Please respect the trail closure notices and stay off the identified trails at Sport UNE until further notice.
Fat Tyre Farm and Robbers Run have had a lot of work put in by the trail fairies in recent weeks. All trails are open and running superb.
As many will already know, Kookaburra Crest has had a makeover in the past couple of weeks.
The trails, jumps and berms are in mint condition.
The club is yet to fully assess The Piney. Hopefully this should happen in the next few days and we will be able to organise any track works needed to reopen the trails.
More details to follow soon.
Like much of the UNE campus, the Sport UNE trails have suffered with multiple trees down and hung branches across the trail network. This has resulted in the trail network being closed to all riders. Additionally, no trail maintenance can be undertaken by the club, at the request of UNE's Chief Operating Officer. This is solely due to multiple safety concerns.
UNE currently have a team of arborists working across the entire campus to remove hung branches and downed trees. They have scheduled this work to include the Sport UNE trails but we have no current time frame for when this will occur.
Please respect the campus and trail closure notices and stay off the Sport UNE Trails while this work is underway.
Fat Tyre Farm and Robbers Run have been severely impacted by the Snow Day, with numerous branches and trees down across the trail network. In addition, the bottom section of Soft Serve has flooded and is unrideable.
We're currently investigating the work needed and starting to plan for a working bee to get these trails reopened. Will be posting notice of a working bee once we have more information but please reach out if you are able to assist.
Following the Snow Day, The Piney is quite wet and boggy, with numerous trees down. The current windy weather is expected to further impact these trails.
The wet conditions will also delay any cleanup works planned by FCNSW in the recently logged section, now not expected to be completed before Autumn 2026.
The club is still assessing conditions and will update the status on these trails soon.
