Last week Holly Harris, current U19 National Cross Country Champion, headed with her mountain biking team Anytime Fitness Trek to Melbourne for the invitation only and stated as the world’s fastest criterium series the Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic. A few people maybe scratching their head considering that a criterium is a road bike race, so instead of Trek’s feather weight mountain bike, the Superfly, they all mounted Trek Madone road bikes.

Holly’s team was made up of Australia’s recent London Cross Country Mountain Bike Olympian Rebecca Henderson, Peta Mullens the National Champion Marathon Cross Country and Jenni King the Nation Open Cross Country Champion.

The team was competing against some solid road biking talent such as ORICA GreenEDGE AIS, Wiggle Honda, Specialized Securitor for the three race series held from 1 to 3 January.

When asked about the event Holly stated, “It was a great experience racing with the top riders in Australia. The Anytime Trek Team has opened up some great opportunities and my Trek Madone is a dream to race”.

Holly’s team member Peta Mullens ended up taking second position in the General Classification behind Melissa Hoskins from ORICA GreenEDGE. Over all team points saw the Trek team come in third behind ORICA GreenEDGE and Specialized Securitor.

Holly’s next focus will be the All Mountain Series and the National Cross Country held during the first quarter of 2013.
