Winter Series Race 4 this Sunday at Robbers Run

Something new and exciting comes to the local mountain bike racing scene this coming Sunday 24 June. The forth race in the winter series of races run by New England Mountain Bikers (NEMTB) is a two part time trial event. The first time trial race is a Hill Climb. The second is called a Super D time trial which tests riders skill on a timed down hill track.

These two races will be held on the track called Robbers Run. This is a fantastic single-track mountain bike trail that comes down the Pinch, half way between Armidale and Guyra. The track goes past Thunderbolts Cave.

Registration will be at the Thunderbolts Cave car park from 12.30 pm to 1.15 pm. To get there go up the New England Highway for 23 km. At the top of the Pinch, turn right onto Norden Rd (just before the Roadhouse), then immediately right onto Thunderbolts Cave Rd.

The Hill Climb and Super D will both contribute Club Championship points.

The race will begin at 1:30 pm with a casual practice ride down the Super D track. Next will be the Hill Climb time trial. Once everyone has reached the top, has regained their breath, the Super D time trail will be held. This will be done one rider at a time with 1 min between each. The faster riders will go first so overtaking won’t be an issue. It will be quite a spectacle to see the down hill specialists taking on the Robbers Run track. However, the track is quite smooth and easy to ride for those who would prefer to take it a bit slower.

All riders will need to be members of NEMTB to race in this event, otherwise they will need to buy a day licence for $20. Adult members will need to pay $5 as an entry fee. Juniors U19 need to pay a $2 fee.

Riders of all abilities are invited to compete. Check out the website for more information www.nemtb.com.au
